Livin' it up in Ben Franklin's town. Riding a bike in the city; damn! watch out for those trolley tracks (slippery when wet!) Whoa, that's what a hoochie mama looks like! I don't think I'm in Delaware anymore.....

Joey T at the Bisbee

Shout out to Joey Thompson (www.therealjoeythompson.com) as he just got top 10 in the Prologue in the Vuelta de Bisbee. He has a teamate ahead of him so it looks like both will be able to mix it up! Great ride dude!

A DJ as a Neighbor

Yiggity Yo, last night while I was picking up some random trash on a street next to mine (11th St around Jackson), I saw a dude putting out box after box of vinal on the curb. I go up and ask what kind of vinal and the dude, who I recognized as cool dude Pete (I run into him and chat with him every few weeks ever since I moved here), told me it was a bunch of House stuff he's not playing anymore. I was like, dude, you're a DJ, yes he said. What's your DJ name? Pete Moss he says. I'm like dude, that's sweet, where do you play. Well, he says, once a month I play in Philly at 125 Something (Old City) and the rest of the time I travel around the US and World. I'm like snap, that's sweet man.

Anyway, Mr. Raz, I don't know if you read this Blog, but I now have about 500 records for you dude, I'll be calling you shortly to tell you that you won the record of the month prize!

Byron, ever hear him live???

My girl had a good point and told me that I could set up my trainer on my back patio and spin, and it would be just like riding outside b/c I would be riding outside. Damn she's smart, I never would have thought it and would have just sulked around the house pissed I couldn't ride in the great weather.

Ride Yo Bike Save Some Gas!!!!

NYC 5 Borroughs ride coming soon, fun ride, cheap-good beer, worth it if you've never done it.

Yo Byron, my fav Roksopp song is Remind Me...any pics from the Oakey Show?
Any other big DJ's coming to town soon? No racing for me for a long time....Posted by Picasa

Mr. Gimps

That's my new name as I can't do shit these days. I was thinking of taking up *gasp* running for the next month, but the physical therapist shot that down. Also found out today that the weird, extremely painful shooting pain in my wrist (whenever I try to move it) is actually the pins in my hand-bone going down into my wrist. As Matt "the Mouth" said when he saw my mangled hand the day I broke it, good thing I'm not left handed and I have a girlfriend as the 5 knuckle shuffle would hurt a bit....

My crazy neighbor is as crazy as ever, though luckily he's not keeping me up at night. I think after every single neighbor called the Animal Control dept of Philly(215-685-9040, PACCA), he's realized he can't lock his dogs outside before he passes out each night. Also I've been acting like I'm a hard motherclukker around him and so he gets that I won't take crap from him anymore.

Listening to 311's first 2 albums today, Music and Grassroots. I saw them live for $5 back in 1995 at Longwood College, the FunkJunkies opened for them. They totally rocked!!!

Stock picks of the week: CECE, USLM and TLM. Yes I actually did buy an oil co. for the first time in my life (TLM), don't worry I still have my head on and no I haven't taken any drugs, even though they prescribed some 4 me 2 take.... My house is more efficient than 99% of all other houses in P-town, so it's all about the balance. I just need a few more grand and then I think I will take myself off the grid as South Philly got No shade, so solar would rock. Plus once I get some bizalls I'm thinking of talking to Sunoco and seeing if they would like to fund some Greening the City initiatives.
Marco V, ever hear of a store called Zumiez (ZUMZ)? I'm thinking of dropping some coin and buying some of them, if they don't sell Dankso, maybe they should????
I'm long Jones Soda (JSDA) and looking for that former Coke (KO) exec to rocket them and make them a Monster (HANS).
So far I'm 12outta 13 for 2006, but the great J.D. Ellis said at work, if you take a 200% gain from a penny, you still have just 3 pennies when all is said and done.

I don't understand it, the press it wasting their time talking about $3 gallon of gas, they need to start talking $4, as that's more realistic come this summer. We are now at $3.................................

ride your bike, eat some beans, save some gas!

There goes April...

OK, eight days ago when I first met my hand surgeon, he told me after the appointment that if I wanted to I could go out for a ride. I thought he was a little crazy saying that, but Thea put some perspective into it and mentioned he probably deals with much worse and hence my break was quite minor to him.
Anyways I never went for a ride before surgery (last Friday) thinking it would only be a few days and I would be back at it. But today on my first checkup after surgery he's like, "don't do anything with the hand until we take the pins out in a month." Now I realize why he said I could go ride the bike last week...he knew I would be phukked for the rest of the month after my surgery.

Another WTF moment in Delaware..

I just read this article in the Delaware News Journal from a shooting in Wilmington which occurred yesterday:
http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060411/NEWS/604110365/1006

Here's an excerpt from a quote from someone who knew the guy who was shot and killed:
Tom Nash, a neighbor of Osborne's, who happened by the hospital as the scene was unfolding, described Osborne as a well-mannered young man who came from good parents and was "brought up right."

Is this guy (Tom Nash) serious???? The guy who was shot and killed (Edward Osbourne) was packing a pistol and was wanted on numerous warrants which you can read about here: http://www.state.de.us/deljis/WantedPublic/PersonO12.shtml

Seriously, if he was "brought up right," then how bad are the kids who are brought up wrong???

Hmmm, lets see, which bone is broken?

I wonder?
Having surgery tomorrow at 7:30 am at "the Oldest Hospital in the US", lucky for me it's been modernized! Since surgery is at 7:30, I have to get there at 6:30, which means I have to wake up at 5am to make sure I get there before hand...Ugh. At least I'll be out by 11am.

Hope you all racing and clubbing this weekend race one and dance one for your homie.

Ronde Van Mullica race report

Sorry for the possible bad grammar amd lower cases, but i broke my hand in this race!

Got up wicked early, 5am, to get ready for one of the better early season races in the mid-atlantic. Arrived around 715 and had 2 go 2 the bathroom really bad, but with 1 porto-pot and a line of at least 10 people, i hit the woods instead. ****note to new bike racers, always have a nice big roll of TP in your trunk for times like these, you don't want to waste good warm up time standing in line!!*****
Warm up for a way too short (4 me) 20 minutes of spinning and big gear sprints. Then off to the start line where the call-up had already occurred. At the line I meet Ted (with a tricked out Tom Kellogg special) and Theo on a loaner 6-13 from the shop. Ted made space for me at the front so I'm not way back at the start. Many props to Jason, the race promoter, for a neutral rollout start. The first lap was quite mellow, though it was wicked nervous thru the turns. Theo stayed up in the top 15, while I was chilling in the back still warming up, but feeling like rockstar. Thru the turns everyone was sprinting out of saddle, yet I would just get up for a stroke or 2 and then sit back down.

At the start of the second lap & conclusion of a prime, the race got hectic w-a lot of attacking and a wee bit of strung-out-ness. I was still chilling and I had a word with Theo that it looked like that front dangling group of riders had finally organized themselves and was starting to gain a little bit. After a few more miles and a few more 90 degree right hand turns, the break had extended it's lead to about 30 secs. It was then at the start of lap 3 when I wanted to move up and use my pursuit skills to launch Theo up to the break, but alas, about the time I had moved out of the wind-free right shoulder into the middle of the pack, a QCW dude (Donelle) bumped bars with his teamate (Rob) in front of me, Rob overreacted and slowly lost control of his bike. It really is killing me as I had adequate time to move out of the way, but this dude looked like he was going to hold it upright, but instead he lost it and took me out in a flash, along with another one of his teammates. Ted was right behind and luckily he was able to keep it upright, but he stopped his race to help me and the QCW guy. I knew I was messed up from the get go as my left hand had an uncommon ache and my left calf had lost a lot o'skin. Also, sadly, my new C'ale lost a seatstay and hence it's life in the crash too :-(

I waited in the sand with Rob, the QCW dude, as Ted made sure we were cognizant, and then Ted rode back to the start/finish area to make sure the officials would send help.
We got picked up about 5 minutes later and made it back to the start-finish, though there was no ambulance as they were already in route to the hospital b/c of another wreck.

I watched an exciting finish to the 3/4, as the break had been blown apart at the end, tho I was surprised to see all the stupid people sprinting it out for the final top 10 results. I never understand when cat 3s or 4s sprint for 8th or 9th place when racing in a normal, non-omnium, race.

Rob and I finally received medical attention about 40 minutes after the incident, but as soon as we got there, another racer with a possible head injury showed up and the emt's went to work on him. Luckily, fellow Guy's teammate Dr. Todd Schwartz, was there to kick some knowledge to me and tell me about my possible hand fracture. So Thea, my Allstar girlfriend and also Guy's teammate, helped pack up my car and drive me back to Sou' Philly, where I had the great opportunity to hang out in Methodist Hospital's ER for 6 hours before everything was done.

Hanging out in a big city ER was an eye opening experience. From the crack heads coming in with drug convulsions, to the super impoverished people who seem to come to the hospital long past when they should have visited.

I ended up sleeping relatively well last night considering the injury. Tomorrow I'm to see a hand specialist about having a pin inserted to speed recovery, hopefully see y'all out there sooner than later. Keep the rubber down!!

Thank you Ted, Todd, Theo, Thea and the rest of our team for the support.

Ride on!

To All my Iggas out there...

Don't forget when you ride this week, to ride one for your homies who cannot.

I'm glad I didn't sell my Scott frame...

My Brand New Puppet

Hey boys and girls, guess what I won for not finishing the Ronde van Mullica yesterday!?!
Yes, my very own plaster puppet attached to my hand!
Really tho, I was feeling great, just sitting in the 3/4 race, a little more than 1/2 the race done when some dude taps another dude's handlebar and that dude overeacts bigtime and takes himself out with me on his wheel. I crashed hard, but luckily didn't hit the head, though next to breaking my left hand, my new c'dale was destroyed.... It looks like someone ran over my rear stay and crumpled one of the stays. What a bummer!!! At least I had my awesome Thea there to take care of me! Plus a teammate of mine is an orthopedic surgeon and he diagnosed the broken bone, so at least I didnt do anything stupid with my hand...
I'd type more on the race, but I'm only typing usin one hand.

keep the rubber down
